1st August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Bubble Planet Hong Kong has permanently closed less than a month after opening its doors at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, marking one of the city’s briefest large-scale exhibition runs in recent years. The 27,000-square-foot immersive attraction debuted on 29th June, transforming the cruise terminal into a pastel-themed playground featuring 11 interactive rooms. The exhibition offered balloon pits, inflatable installations, visual illusions and virtual reality experiences, and had been promoted as a headline family event for the summer season.
Despite the fanfare surrounding its arrival, the event soon encountered difficulties. Within days of its launch, some parents raised safety concerns, alleging that children had sustained injuries inside one of the balloon pits. Reports cited hidden hard structures beneath the balloons, exposed sharp edges and uneven flooring in dimly lit areas as potential hazards.
Organisers temporarily suspended operations earlier in July in order to implement remedial measures. Additional padding was installed, flooring was adjusted and warning notices were put in place. The exhibition also introduced midweek closures on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to allow for what it described as ongoing maintenance and safety enhancements.
However, the measures proved insufficient to secure the event’s future. In a statement published on its official website on 29th July, organisers confirmed that the exhibition had ceased operations with effect from 28th July, attributing the decision to technical issues affecting its continued running. Ticket holders for upcoming dates were advised to seek full refunds through ticketing platforms including Klook and Fever, or via the official website.
Local media reported that some parents had yet to receive compensation following earlier injury claims. Additional complaints surfaced online, with visitors questioning ticketing arrangements, including the absence of discounted child tickets and the requirement for infants to purchase full-price admission.
Bubble Planet is an international touring exhibition co-produced by European curator Exhibition Hub and entertainment platform Fever, and has previously appeared in cities such as New York, Milan and Los Angeles.
