7th February 2023 – (Rio De Janeiro) Brazilian tennis player Gilbert Klier Junior has been banned for 12 months after a positive doping case.
The 22-year-old was found to have traces of the illegal substance SARM S-22 during a random test last year, according to an International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) statement.
The ITIA said it accepted Klier Junior’s explanation that he had unwittingly ingested the substance via a contaminated supplement.
But it added that the 2018 Youth Olympics bronze medalist was partly responsible, citing “other high profile cases involving Brazilian tennis players and other sports people.”
The penalty was backdated to June last year, when Klier Junior was first suspended.
