31st March 2025 – (Hong Kong) Amidst the tremors that shook Bangkok on 28th Marc a Korean man, Kwon Young-jun, demonstrated a courageous act by leaping across a damaged sky walkway, located 50 storeys above ground. The daring feat was an attempt to reach his wife and daughter, who were believed to be in another swaying building.
The remarkable incident, captured on video and widely shared online, unfolded amidst the chaotic scenes following the earthquake in the Thai capital. Alongside images of collapsing buildings and overflowing rooftop pools, Mr. Kwon’s leap across the broken sky bridge stood out as a testament to his determination to reunite with his family.
According to his wife, known as Ms. Bowyuri, the earthquake struck while Mr. Kwon was on the 52nd floor of the Park Origin condominium in Thonglor, with his family residing on the 30th floor of a neighbouring block. The interconnected buildings, linked by sky bridges, suffered damage during the quake, with debris falling to the ground.
Witnessing the buildings sway perilously, Mr. Kwon bravely crossed the fallen sky bridge to locate his family. Upon realizing they had already evacuated, he descended over 40 floors to find them outside the building, relatively unharmed save for minor scratches.
In a heartfelt recounting of the incident, Ms. Bowyuri shared on social media how her husband’s instinct to protect his family led him to take the risky leap without looking back. Despite the danger, Mr. Kwon’s primary concern remained the safety and well-being of his loved ones.
Fortunately, Mr. Kwon emerged from the ordeal with minor injuries. Reflecting on the harrowing experience, he expressed his relief at reuniting with his family and the imperative of ensuring their safety above all else.
The Park Origin condominium’s developer, Origin, confirmed the safety of the building post-earthquake inspections. The bridge’s structure was deemed secure, designed to adapt to seismic events while maintaining its integrity.
Following the event, Mr. Kwon and his family have temporarily relocated to another district in Bangkok, seeking refuge with Ms. Bowyuri’s parents. The family’s resilience and unity in the face of adversity have resonated with their online followers, who have been assured of their well-being amidst the seismic aftermath in the region.
