Blazing wildfire on Kau Keng Shan in Tuen Mun extinguished after 8-hour battle


14th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Yesterday, at around 6.30pm, authorities received reports of a wildfire near the Prime View Stop of Tuen Mun Light Rail at Kau Keng Shan. Responding swiftly, personnel arrived at the scene, estimating the fire’s initial area to be approximately 10 meters by 15 meters. Firefighters rushed to combat the flames, but by late night around 11pm, two fire fronts emerged, stretching up to 50 meters and 10 meters respectively, with one dangerously close to an electrical tower. The Fire Services Department urged residents to remain calm and, if affected by the drifting smoke and peculiar odours, advised them to close doors and windows.

After nearly eight hours of relentless burning, the mountain fire was finally brought under control at 2.06am today. No evacuations were necessary, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
