Beijing set to host CPPCC National Committee’s Annual Session from today

4th March 2024 – (Beijing) The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top advisory body, is poised to kick off its annual session in Beijing, running from 4th to 10th March as announced by spokesperson Liu Jieyi during a press briefing on Sunday.

The week-long conclave, which constitutes the second session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, will commence on Monday afternoon and draw to a close on the morning of the following Sunday. Liu confirmed that all preparatory measures for the session have been finalized, with the schedule including a series of diverse activities. Notably, foreign diplomats stationed in China will be in attendance at both the opening and closing ceremonies.

Reflecting on the CPPCC National Committee’s performance in the preceding year, marking the inaugural year of the 14th National Committee’s term, Liu underscored the Committee’s auspicious start. The CPPCC’s efforts over the past year have unfolded under the overarching direction of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with political advisors dedicating their energies to fostering suggestions that align with the nation’s modernization ambitions.

A robust total of 94 consultation sessions were convened throughout 2023, delving into diverse themes such as forging new development paradigms. Further, political advisors embarked on 138 research and inspection ventures, Liu detailed.

The CPPCC serves as a pivotal conduit and specialized consultative organ within the framework of socialist consultative democracy, Liu noted, with its operations being directed towards encapsulating the populace’s sentiments and aspirations in its political consultative, democratic supervisory, and participative deliberations concerning state governance.

As China commemorates the 75th anniversary of both the People’s Republic and the CPPCC this year, Liu voiced the CPPCC’s resolve to enhance its proficiency across its multifaceted roles.

Economic discourses have remained at the forefront of the CPPCC National Committee’s consultations, with advisors actively contributing insights on a gamut of macroeconomic and other substantive economic issues, particularly emphasizing high-quality development.

Acknowledging the private sector’s integral role as a catalyst for modernization and a cornerstone for high-quality growth, the CPPCC National Committee has forged partnerships with local branches and governmental entities to navigate challenges faced by private enterprises. Initiatives have been launched to foster symbiotic development between state-owned and private sectors, thereby reinforcing the private sector’s expansion.

On the employment front, extensive studies and inquiries have been undertaken to champion high-quality employment, yielding 91 proposals to tackle practical employment concerns and enhance job prospects for university graduates.

The political advisors have also proffered strategies to expedite the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, advancing a key national strategy by promoting a unified market, digital industry transformation, and cross-regional talent collaboration.

Looking to the future, the CPPCC National Committee intends to steadfastly concentrate on the overarching goals and tasks set forth by Chinese modernization, tendering counsel on the CPC Central Committee’s major policies, the nation’s strategic imperatives, and pressing developmental matters.

Liu expressed a bullish outlook on China’s economy, citing its resilience, potential, and dynamism. With a solid foundation laid for high-quality development, the long-term positive trajectory of the Chinese economy is anticipated to gain further momentum.

In terms of international relations, the CPPCC National Committee maintains its commitment to fostering a shared global future. Last year, the advisory body engaged with over 200 international entities from 50 nations, established links with numerous think tanks and NGOs, and initiated a China-Africa friendship collective.

For 2024, the CPPCC National Committee plans to broaden its foreign engagement to contribute meaningfully to the vision of a shared future for humanity, the spokesperson concluded.
