Bail for Filipino domestic helper who allegedly slaps 1-year-old baby girl in Sai Ying Pun rejected

Whitty Street Court

4th July 2022 – (Hong Kong) A foreign domestic helper was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport as she attempted to leave Hong Kong a few days ago after she was accused of slapping her employer’s 1-year-old baby girl X between 1st and 23rd June 2022 on 8th floor of Whitty Street Court in Sai Ying Pun. She is now charged with 2 counts of child abuse and she was sent to the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for court mention today (4th).

The magistrate adjourned the case to 18th July for mention, pending further investigation by the police to see if there is more evidence in the case and to obtain the victim’s medical report. The defendant made an application for bail, but the prosecution objected, and the magistrate eventually denied the defendant’s application and ordered her to be remanded to correctional custody.

It is reported that the employer dismissed the defendant and called the police after finding out that the defendant had harmed the baby girl, but the defendant had disappeared. It was not until a few days ago when she tried to leave Hong Kong that she was discovered by immigration officers and notified to the police.
