6th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) James Cameron’s highly anticipated Hollywood sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, had been scheduled to open in Hong Kong on 17th December. The distributor announced today that the release will be postponed.
In a statement posted on its official social media channels, 20th Century Fox said: “In light of the recent tragic events in Tai Po, and out of respect for the Hong Kong community, the release of Avatar 3 originally slated for 17th December will be deferred to 2026. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected. A new release date will be announced as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
Cameron had been due to travel to Sanya, Hainan, on 8th December for a premiere event, but the studio recently cancelled the red‑carpet segment citing force majeure. The director will no longer attend.
