21st March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Art Central, is set to open to the public from tomorrow to Saturday, 25th March, 2023, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The eighth edition of the fair will showcase up-and-coming artists from some of Asia’s most ambitious galleries, as well as established names. Art Central is known as a launching pad for galleries and artists in Asia’s contemporary art market, and it is pleased to announce that it has received funding from the pilot Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund to present four on-site programs. These include an immersive, large-scale installation by acclaimed artist Yang Yongliang, a daily series of specially commissioned performance art works, a curated group exhibition spotlighting Hong Kong artists, and a comprehensive art education program for visitors of all ages.
Art Central will welcome 37 pioneering galleries from Hong Kong, 60 influential galleries from greater Asia, and 12 galleries from the rest of the world. Some of the highlights of the event include Yang Yongliang’s Glows in the Night, a video artwork presented on an LED installation of 18 meters, the largest presentation by the artist in Hong Kong, and the group exhibition Blue Throat – Start the Churning, curated by Chris Wan and Jeremy Ip, which brings together sixteen Hong Kong artists. Art Central will also feature a program of talks, performance, and video art, including prominent voices in contemporary art today, such as artists, curators, collectors, academics, museum directors, writers, publishers, critics, and more.
