7th May 2021 – (Hong Kong) Under the epidemic situation, Hong Kong has not held any major events for more than a year. The Hong Kong Tourism Board stated that this month, Hong Kong will usher in the first international art event “Art Basel” since the epidemic. The Hong Kong Tourism Board will use this to launch “Arts in Hong Kong” programme this month. Hong Kong, it will list a number of art activities on this platform, and introduce 6 major art tour routes in Hong Kong, hoping to maintain Hong Kong’s status as an “Asian Art Hub” with the new vision.
The annual “Art Basel” is a world-class art event. It was originally scheduled to be exhibited in Hong Kong in March each year. However, due to the epidemic last year, it has been postponed continuously. After a year away, it will return to the Wanchai Convention Centre from 21st to 23rd this month. The exhibition will be held to continue to showcase outstanding artistic creations from all over the world. It is the first world-class art event to be held in Hong Kong since the social movement and the epidemic in mid-2019.
The Art Basel Hong Kong fair features premier galleries from Asia and beyond. It provides an in-depth overview of Asia-Pacific’s astonishing diversity through Modern and contemporary works by established and emerging artists.
This year, Art Basel will also launch the new digital initiative ‘Art Basel Live: Hong Kong‘ to amplify the international visibility of its exhibitors. ‘Art Basel Live: Hong Kong’ will run in parallel to the show and include Online Viewing Rooms, a program of special events, as well as live broadcasts and virtual walkthroughs, bringing audiences from around the world to Hong Kong.
Furthermore, satellite booths have been introduced across all sectors for exhibitors whose physical attendance is not possible due to current regulations, and several international galleries have also joined forces for collective booths.
