Art Basel Hong Kong returns with 242 world-class galleries


26th March 2024 – (Hong Kong) The highly anticipated 2024 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong is poised to captivate art enthusiasts as it welcomes 242 premier international galleries from around the globe. Supported for the second consecutive year by a grant from the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund, the show will run from 28th to 30th March , 2024, with exclusive VIP previews taking place today and tomorrow.

Art Basel Hong Kong is making a grand comeback, showcasing a remarkable increase in exhibitor numbers compared to 2023—a 37% surge that signifies a return to the pre-pandemic scale of the renowned art fair. This year’s event promises to shine a spotlight on the diverse and vibrant art scenes of Asia and beyond, with more than half of the participating galleries operating spaces in the region.

Among the galleries making a much-anticipated return after a hiatus are esteemed names like Galerie Lelong & Co. from France, Galleria d’Arte Maggiore G.A.M. from Italy, kurimanzutto from Mexico, and Experimenter from India. Additionally, 23 galleries from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas will be participating in the fair for the first time, further enriching the diverse lineup of exhibitors.

Collaborating with galleries, artists, world-class institutions, and cultural partners, Art Basel will present an engaging city-wide program of events and activations throughout the show week, ensuring a dynamic and immersive experience for attendees. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) will once again serve as the venue for Art Basel Hong Kong, providing a spacious and prestigious backdrop for the exceptional artworks on display. VIP Preview Days on March 26 and 27 provide an exclusive opportunity for art collectors, enthusiasts, and industry professionals to get a privileged first look at the remarkable pieces showcased at the fair.

Art Basel has unveiled the list of 242 leading international galleries carefully selected for the 2024 Hong Kong show. This represents a significant increase in exhibitor numbers compared to the previous year, with an additional 65 galleries joining the fair. With participants hailing from 40 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, North and Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, the exhibition will feature a wide range of artworks spanning different eras and artistic styles.

Excitingly, 23 international galleries renowned for their compelling programs will be making their debut at Art Basel Hong Kong. These include Station from Melbourne and Sydney, Tim Van Laere Gallery from Antwerp and Rome, Almeida e Dale Galeria de Arte from São Paulo, and Mangrove Gallery from Shenzhen, among others.

Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 will also see the return of 69 galleries that had taken a brief hiatus, including prestigious names like Galerie Lelong & Co., Lisson Gallery, and Matthew Marks Gallery. The fair will once again offer a comprehensive overview of artistic production in the Asia-Pacific region, featuring historical masterpieces, contemporary artworks, and emerging talents. Galleries from Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and India will contribute to the diverse showcase.
