18th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) Arnold Schwarzenegger, the 75-year-old actor who is best known for his iconic role as “The Terminator,” has announced that he is done with the franchise. Despite believing that the franchise could have a successful future, Schwarzenegger insists that he will not be a part of it. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he stated, “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a great idea.”
Schwarzenegger starred in the original Terminator movie in 1984 and reprised the role in Terminator: Dark Fate in 2019. He has always looked at the franchise fondly, explaining that it was largely responsible for his success. However, he also expressed disappointment with the last two films in the series, Genisys and Dark Fate, stating that they “didn’t close the deal” due to poor writing.
While Schwarzenegger is done with Terminator, he remains interested in making a sequel to Conan the Barbarian, the film that helped launch his Hollywood career in 1982. He revealed that he has been waiting for a Conan sequel for the past ten years, but the rights are owned by Fredrik Malmberg. Schwarzenegger is keen to reprise the role and believes that there is a great script out there that John Milius wrote. However, until Malmberg sells the rights, there’s nothing Schwarzenegger can do about it.
