13th June 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-born pianist Aristo Sham Ching-tao, who recently made history by winning both the Gold Medal and Audience Award at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will return to his home city for a special performance on 1st July.

The event, titled “Triumphant Return: Aristo Sham Live on Radio 4,” will take place at 5pm and offer fans a rare chance to engage with the celebrated musician. Sham is set to perform several pieces live, share insights from his competition journey, and reflect on his lifelong connection with RTHK Radio 4.

A prodigy who started playing the piano at age three, Sham has long been a figure of admiration in Hong Kong’s music scene. He honed his craft under the tutelage of renowned pianist Eleanor Wong Yee-lun and showcased his talent in numerous local events before leaving for international studies at the age of 14.

Sham’s Van Cliburn victory is a major milestone in his career, marking the culmination of years of dedication and perseverance. The 29-year-old pianist described the competition as one of the most challenging experiences of his life, requiring immense physical and mental stamina over its three-week course. Despite the pressures, he joked that his win means he will no longer need to compete, as the prize includes three years of professional management, album recordings, and concert tours.

Reflecting on his journey, Sham credited Hong Kong’s vibrant artistic environment for nurturing his early development. “The city allows young musicians to engage with world-class artists from an early age,” he noted.

This upcoming event in Hong Kong is part of Sham’s broader efforts to reconnect with his roots while sharing his music with audiences worldwide. Following his July 1 performance, he will kick off an Asian tour, with a major concert scheduled for August 30.
