24th July 2026 – (Cupertino) Apple is reportedly trialling a 6.96‑inch iPhone display that could be marketed as a 7‑inch panel if it proceeds to production, according to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station. The screen is said to share the aspect ratio of the current iPhone 17 Pro Max and is being evaluated for Apple’s 20th‑anniversary iPhone due in 2027, though it remains unconfirmed whether the panel will make it into the rumoured iPhone 20 Pro Max.
Bloomberg reported last month that Apple had intensified work on two sizes of the 2027 commemorative handset, amid multiple claims that the device will adopt an edge‑to‑edge display with curved glass on all sides for an almost borderless effect. If the prototype advances, it would mark Apple’s first fresh push beyond the 6.9‑inch class on its flagship models.
This year’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to retain the dimensions of the iPhone 17 Pro series at 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively, underscoring Apple’s recent cadence of measured size changes. The company last increased its premium display sizes with the iPhone 16 Pro family in 2024, moving from 6.1 to 6.3 inches and from 6.7 to 6.9 inches, achieved through slimmer bezels and a slightly larger chassis. Today’s leak is the first to point to a further step‑up for the 2027 model, reinforcing speculation that Apple may use the anniversary cycle to showcase a new industrial design.
