2nd June 2023 – (Cupertino) Apple is expected to announce a new headset that combines video of the outside world with the virtual one at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference. CEO Tim Cook and Meta Platforms‘ CEO Mark Zuckerberg are both competing to define how consumers will use the new generation of technology, where the real and digital worlds converge. While Zuckerberg has laid out a vision for the “metaverse,” Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak recently called the metaverse “a word I’ll never use.” Apple’s device, which Bloomberg has reported could cost around $3,000 and look like a pair of ski goggles, is seen as a place holder of sorts until the company can produce a pair of transparent glasses that overlay digital information on the real world. Apple’s grand vision for the glasses remains years away, and in the meantime, the company is readying a premium device aimed at showing software developers what is possible.
