APEC card holders eligible for new five-year mainland China travel permit, clarifies CTS Chairman

10th July 2024 – (Hong Kong) Perry Yiu Pak-leung, Chairman of China Travel Service (Hong Kong) (CTS), confirmed that holders of APEC business travel cards are indeed eligible to apply for the newly introduced five-year mainland China travel permit. This announcement came after misleading information was initially displayed at CTS service centres in Mong Kok and Tuen Mun.

The erroneous notices had stated that the application for this new permit would negate any other forms of mainland visas and that APEC cardholders were not eligible. However, Yiu’s statement has corrected these inaccuracies, ensuring that APEC cardholders can apply, provided they present the necessary documents including a valid passport, a Hong Kong ID card, and a document from the Immigration Department which verifies their permanent resident status and nationality.

This new permit aims to streamline and facilitate the frequent travel of non-Chinese nationals with permanent residency in Hong Kong and Macau to the mainland. It allows multiple entries for activities ranging from family visits to business engagements, with each stay valid for up to 90 days.

Additionally, the permit holders will benefit from self-service clearance at control points once they complete a biometric registration at entry ports. This feature is designed to significantly reduce the inconvenience previously experienced by travellers.
