Apartment on Tung Sing Road in Aberdeen under lockdown testing after preliminary Delta case detected

16th January 2022 – (Hong Kong)  The Government today exercised the power under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap. 599J) to make a “restriction-testing declaration” (declaration) effective from 7pm, under which people (hereafter referred to as “persons subject to compulsory testing”) within the specified “restricted area” in Aberdeen (i.e. 2-4 Tung Sing Road, Aberdeen, excluding the shops located on G/F of 2-8 Tung Sing Road) are required to stay in their premises and undergo compulsory testing. Persons subject to compulsory testing are required to stay in their premises until all such persons identified in the “restricted area” have undergone testing and the test results are mostly ascertained. The Government aims at finishing this exercise at about 6.30am tomorrow.

A Government spokesman said, “Under Cap. 599J, the Government can, according to the needs of infection control, make a ‘restriction-testing declaration’. As a case tested preliminarily positive who has lived in the abovementioned building was detected today, and the preliminary test result involved a mutant strain, the risk of infection in the relevant area is assessed to be likely higher, so the Government decided to make a ‘restriction-testing declaration’ for the relevant area after the test result was found to be positive.”

A 23-year-old female employee at Little Boss pet shop in Jardine’s Bazaar at Causeway Bay is a newly confirmed preliminary case with unknown sources. She lives at 4 Tung Sing Road in Aberdeen. Dr.Chuang said that the patient reported suspected infection with Delta variant which may not be related to Omicron. This means that there may be a second source of transmission chain in Hong Kong. She usually bought takeout food and ate in the store away from the pets. Her main job is to clean the animal cages, refill water and food for rabbits and hamsters, and also shows pets to customers. There are less than 10 close contacts of a female salesperson. The female patient has been injected with two doses of CoronaVac by SINOVAC vaccine. Although she went to  Haidilao Hot Pot for dinner in Yau Ma Tei on 5th January, there has been no outbreak yet, and diners do not need to be quarantined. She visited La Golden Bistro restaurant at 22, Belcher’s Road and Ah Yat Pork Chop Spicy Rice Noodles at 7-11 Belcher’s Street, Kennedy Town on 3rd January. On 10th January, she stayed at Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong with a friend. Her Ct value is 21 indicating a high viral load and she developed cough and sore throat.
