14th October 2021 – (Hong Kong) The anti-extradition protests in 2019 caused social turmoil, and many schools set up internal concern groups to address the movement. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Fut Nam College issued a notice last Thursday (7th) stating that a student was arrested for participating in illegally organised street station activities. Later it was discovered that a “concern group” established under the name of his school had been set up online to recruit students. Upon seeing the case, the school notified the police for help.
The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals replied that Wong Fut Nam College had asked the police for help earlier. When the school followed up on the arrest of the student, it was suspected that there was a “concern group” of unknown background using the name of the school, and tried to contact the students of the school through social media. After assessing the risks of the situation, the school issued a notice urging parents to be vigilant to ensure that their children would not be affected by bad influences.
The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and the school attached great importance to the incident. The school emphasised that students will never be allowed to participate in illegal activities.
