26th March 2023 – (New York) Hollywood actor Jonathan Majors, known for his roles in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III, was arrested on Saturday in New York City on charges of assault, strangulation and harassment. According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the actor was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman.
Police responded to a 911 call inside an apartment in the Manhattan neighbourhood of Chelsea around 11am on Saturday. The victim informed the officers that she had been assaulted, following which the NYPD took Majors into custody without incident.
The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The actor was released from police custody later that day, as confirmed by the NYPD spokesperson.
Majors’ representative has since denied any wrongdoing by the actor. In an email to the Associated Press on Saturday, the representative said, “He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”
The actor has been one of the fastest-rising stars in Hollywood in recent years. After breaking through in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Majors has starred in several critically acclaimed movies, including Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall, and last year’s Devotion. He also stars in the upcoming Searchlight Pictures film Magazine Dreams, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is set for release in December.
Majors is yet to face legal consequences for the charges brought against him. However, the arrest could have significant implications for the actor’s career, particularly given the recent attention on domestic violence and harassment in the entertainment industry.
