14th April 2024 – (Las Vegas) Brazil’s Alex Pereira showcased his immense power with a stunning first-round knockout victory over Jamahal Hill, successfully defending his UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 300 on Saturday night. In a remarkable sequence, Pereira shrugged off what appeared to be a low blow from Hill, retaliating with a powerful left hook that sent his American opponent crashing to the canvas. Pereira wasted no time and swiftly followed up with a barrage of strikes, leading to the stoppage at the 3:14 mark of the opening round.

Speaking in a post-fight interview, Pereira expressed his satisfaction with executing his game plan flawlessly, emphasizing his careful distance and timing calculation. Hill had previously claimed the title in January 2023 but relinquished it due to a basketball-related injury in July. Pereira, a decorated kickboxer and former UFC middleweight champion, stepped in and secured the belt with a second-round knockout of Jiri Prochazka in November.

Pereira, having emerged from the fight without significant damage, expressed his desire to compete on the upcoming UFC card in Brazil scheduled for May. He confidently stated that he sustained no injuries during his dominant performance against Hill.

In the strawweight bout, Zhang Weili triumphed over Yan Xiaonan, successfully defending her title. Zhang came close to finishing the fight in the first round with a rear-naked choke, but Yan managed to survive until the bell. Despite Yan’s moments of success on the feet, Zhang demonstrated her grappling prowess, controlling the exchanges on the ground and securing a unanimous decision victory.

Among the night’s thrilling highlights was Max Holloway’s electrifying knockout victory over Justin Gaethje in their lightweight clash. With just one second remaining on the clock, Holloway unleashed a thunderous right hand, folding Gaethje and sealing the win after an intense five-round battle.
