Accidental fall of 5-meter aluminium scaffolding damages parked vehicles in Tai Kok Tsui

30th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) A 5-meter tall and 3-meter wide aluminium scaffolding platform, believed to be accidental, plummeted from the third-floor terrace of 22 Larch Street in Tai Kok Tsui early morning today. The incident resulted in the destruction of a parked private car and a commercial vehicle across the street from the building. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although the private car sustained significant damage to its front hood, while the passenger-side door of the commercial vehicle was also affected.

In response, police officers arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. Multiple light bulbs were found scattered around the area, leading investigators to initially ascertain that an employee had been working on the terrace pool of the building opposite yesterday afternoon (29th), assembling the aforementioned scaffolding platform to replace the bulbs. It is suspected that due to negligence, the employee failed to secure the platform properly before finishing their work, resulting in the unfortunate incident. A 50-year-old male employee, who is believed to be connected to the case, has been taken into custody for further questioning.
