26th July 2025 – (Hong Kong) The much-anticipated “Hong Kong Football Festival 2025” brought an electrifying atmosphere to Kai Tak Stadium this evening, as Premier League champions Liverpool clashed with Serie A giants AC Milan. The match delivered a spectacle of world-class football, with AC Milan securing a 4-2 victory in front of a sold-out crowd. From the opening whistle, both teams played with intensity and determination, captivating the fans with fast-paced attacks and skilful plays.
AC Milan opened the scoring through Rafael Leao, who struck decisively in a counterattack that left Liverpool’s defence exposed. Although Dominik Szoboszlai equalised for Liverpool with a stunning curling shot, Milan quickly regained the lead through Ruben Loftus-Cheek early in the second half. Further goals from Noah Okafor, including a brilliant second strike in the dying moments, sealed the victory for the Italian side. Cody Gakpo’s late header provided Liverpool with a glimmer of hope, but defensive errors ultimately cost the team. Fans were treated to six goals in a high-energy clash that reflected the competitive spirit of both clubs.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms Rosanna Law, attended the event and described the match as thrilling. “Both teams were determined to win, leading to continuous attacks. The 4-2 result, with six goals in total, surely satisfied the fans in attendance,” she remarked.
Following the match, Ms Law joined her team for a late-night meal in Kowloon City, where she observed a vibrant atmosphere. “The restaurants were packed with fans wearing red jerseys. The energy inside and outside the stadium was incredible, showcasing the undeniable impact of hosting such a mega event,” she said.
Ms Law emphasised the government’s commitment to organising more large-scale events to boost the local economy and encourage public participation. She noted that the event had significantly stimulated the nighttime economy, as football enthusiasts naturally gathered to celebrate.
“Fans are now familiar with the convenient route from the MTR station to Kowloon City for dining, which further enhances the area’s appeal,” she added.
