9 players and 3 staff members in HK football team test positive for COVID-19 in Thailand during Asian Cup

16th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Football Association issued a statement in the early morning of Thursday (16th), stating that the Hong Kong football team conducted COVID-19 test in Thailand on Wednesday (15th) morning and has received the test report. As a result, there were 9 players and 3 staff in the team who tested positive for COVID-19 via nucleic acid test. They are currently self-isolating in Thailand. The Hong Kong football team which has just successfully qualified for “Asian Cup” for the first time since 1968 was originally scheduled to return to Hong Kong at noon on Thursday (16th).

The team Tuesday qualified for the Asian Cup for the first time in 54 years after the Philippines lost to Palestine in their final qualifying match.
