18th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Government announced on 16th June the list of the first batch of designated quarantine hotels (DQHs) for the eighth cycle of the Designated Quarantine Hotel Scheme. The new cycle of the Scheme will run from 1st August to 31st October, 2022. The first batch of 62 hotels will provide about 23,000 rooms.
However, in just one day, as of Friday (15th) that the reservations for hotel rooms have been full, and there is only one hotel room available as early as August 11th. If non-local Hong Kong people want to book a cheaper room, the earliest is the Ramada Hotel on 13th August, and the 7-day quarantine fare is around HK$4,767. The travel industry estimates that the current supply is still insufficient, and quarantine hotels can only accept up to nearly 70,000 passengers returning to Hong Kong every month, and there will be more options in September and October. The industry also believes that hotel rooms are “the core of the problem”, emphasising that only if the government reduces the number of quarantine days, travel agencies can organise more tour groups.
