86-year-old man found hanging from Tai Kok Tsui pedestrian bridge in apparent suicide

19th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) At around 4am today, an elderly man was discovered hanging from the pedestrian bridge near Harbour Green on Sham Mong Road in Tai Kok Tsui, with a nylon rope tied around his neck, suspending himself approximately 7 meters above the ground, and was reported by a passing motorist.

Upon receiving the report, firefighters arrived at the scene and deployed a lift platform to rescue the unconscious elderly man, bringing him down to the ground. He was then rushed to the hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, the elderly man, surnamed Chan (86 years old), was later confirmed to have passed away. No suicide note was found at the scene, and the exact cause of death is pending confirmation after a post-mortem examination.
