19th February 2024 – (Hong Kong) Immigration Department has initiated an investigation into the visa status of Chris Wang, the 36-year-old fiancée of revered 73-year-old Hong Kong actor, Lee Lung-kei. Reports from yesterday (18th) indicated that Wang was arrested for overstaying as a tourist. According to records, she has never revealed her Hong Kong Identity Card. This inquiry has cast a shadow over the couple’s high-profile relationship, which has already been marred by a series of allegations against Ms. Wang.

Under the Hong Kong Immigration Ordinance (Cap 115), Section 41, it is an offence for any individual to breach their conditions of stay. A conviction can lead to a hefty fine of up to HK$50,000 and imprisonment for up to two years. The department’s actions suggest that Ms. Wang may have overstayed her permitted time in the city, which constitutes a serious violation of local immigration laws.

In an earlier interview, Wang claimed to have come to Hong Kong through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, stating that the program requires participants to have at least a master’s degree. However, doubts about Wang’s educational qualifications arose, prompting her fiancé, Lee, to announce that all matters concerning the authenticity of her qualifications were being handled by lawyers. Nevertheless, if Chris had indeed come through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, there would not have been an issue with overstaying her visa.

The relationship between the veteran actor and Wang has been riddled with controversies, from accusations of fabricating her academic qualifications to alleged financial improprieties. The public has been particularly captivated by claims that Ms. Wang has been impersonating the daughter of Chinese actress Cora Miao, engaging in sales of fraudulent art online, and even entering into a sham engagement in the United States. These incidents have prompted a wave of concern across social media platforms, with netizens expressing apprehension that Wang could be exploiting Lee, potentially leading to substantial emotional and financial harm.
