16th October 2020 – (Hong Kong) Dr.Chuang Shuk-kwan from Centre for Health Protection (CHP) announced at 4.30pm today that there are 7 new COVID-19 cases (as of 12am today) with 6 imported cases (returnees from India, Nepal etc) and 1 case with unknown source. Total cases have reached 5,221.
One new case with unknown source of infection is a 28-year-old male employee who works at the residential home of MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION at LEI CHENG UK HOUSE in Sham Shui Po was diagnosed with COVID-19. The employee performed counselling work in the residential home. There are a total of 13 employees and 41 residents who live at Lei Cheng Uk House. The patient’s last work date was on Monday (12th). The body temperature was normal, there were no symptoms, and mask was worn during work. He lives at King Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O.
He also attended a prayer group with 8 others in a church in To Kwa Wan during the incubation period on 11th October and had dinner with 3 friends at Ko Shan Theatre at night. He also went cycling from Sha Tin to Tai Po with 12 people including 8 other residents at Lei Cheng Uk House. All of the are listed as close contacts. He also played basketball and guitar during the incubation period.
He also had a meal at Cafe de Coral with his colleague at Shop 448-450, 4/F, Phase 1, New Town Plaza, 18 Sha Tin Centre Street, Sha Tin. The colleague tested negative subsequently
Dr. Linda Yu from Hospital Authority (HA) announced that as of 9am today, 130 confirmed patients were being treated in 19 hospitals of the HA and AsiaWorld-Expo community treatment facilities. Among them, 12 are in critical condition, 6 are in serious condition, and 112 are in stable condition.
8 COVID-19 confirmed patients were discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours. A total of 4,950 patients with confirmed infection and 1 probable infection have been discharged so far.
No patients have passed away in the past 24 hours.
At present, public hospitals have put to use 1,139 negative pressure beds with a utilisation rate of 58.3% and 631 negative pressure wards have been put to use, with a utilisation rate of 67.8%.
Meanwhile, Tsuen Wan Catholic Primary School issued a notice to parents yesterday (15th) that the school learned that a staff member was identified by the Center for Health Protection as a close contact of the confirmed case. The school followed the instructions of the Centre for Health Protection to step up cleaning and disinfection in the school.
