7 new confirmed coronavirus cases in Hong Kong, total stands at 49


11th February 2020 – (Hong Kong) Health Department held a press conference this afternoon and announced that there were a total of 7 new confirmed novel coronavirus cases. Total cases in Hong Kong have increased to 49 with patients aged between 23-91 years. One of them is the colleague of the 11 infected patients who had hotpot and barbecue at Lento Party Room in Kwun Tong. Another 3 more cases are related to the 62-year-old woman who lives at Cheung Hong Estate Hong Mei House. The two patients are the son and his wife who live together with the woman. The father of the daughter-in-law who has visited them at Hong Mei House is also a confirmed patient.

Another patient from Leung Tin Village is also infected with coronavirus at Tuen Mun Hospital. A man who works at Jubilant Grace Methodist Church has contracted the virus while another patient stays at Po Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O.

There are currently 4 residents from A07 units at Cheung Hong Estate Hong Mei House who have developed Wuhan pneumonia symptoms. 5 other residents who also developed respiratory symptoms tested negative for coronavirus. Health Department said that if the test results on Friday show negative, residents can all return to their apartment at Cheung Hong Estate.

As at noon today, public hospitals had reported to the Department of Health the admission of 52 patients (25 male and 27 female, aged 20 months to 79 years) in the past 24 hours who met the reporting criteria of severe respiratory disease associated with a novel infectious agent. Specimens of the patients concerned have been sent for testing. There are still 117 patients under isolation.

The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
