10th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) The National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force arrested two men surnamed Ho and Tang, aged 28 and 29 yesterday morning for suspected of “doing an act or acts with seditious intention”, contravening Section 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200).
It is reported that both Ho and Tang are the administrators of the Facebook group “Civil Secrets”. The man surnamed Ho works as a clerk in the Home Affairs Department, and the man surnamed Tang works as the system analysis officer of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer. Preliminary police investigations revealed that Ho and Tang were suspected of posting seditious posts via the Facebook group that “caused or deepened resentment and hostility among residents of different classes in Hong Kong”.
In addition, the police also investigated five men between the ages of 28 and 43 for seditious posts in the group and two of them were arrested on suspicion of “fraud”. It is understood that the five people work as paramedics in the fire department. The four arrested persons have been released on bail pending investigation and must report to the police in early November.
