68-year-old person in charge and 20 gamblers arrested in illegal gambling den in Mong Kok

1st February 2023 – (Hong Kong) Based on intelligence analysis and in-depth investigations, police launched an operation in Mong Kok District at about 5pm yesterday, raiding a unit at No. 316 Ferry Street, smashing a suspected illegal mahjong parlour. 4 electric mahjong tables, 8 sets of mahjong, 12 chairs and about HK$3,300 in gambling money were seized. The operation arrested a local woman in charge (68 years old), and 10 male and 10 female (40 to 79 years old) gamblers. The female person in charge has been charged with one crime of “operating a gambling establishment”, while the other 7 men and 5 women who were arrested have each been charged with a crime of “gambling in a gambling establishment”. The case will be brought up in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on the 17th of this month. The remaining eight arrested persons were released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in the middle of this month.
