65 year man jumps off platform at Kowloon Tong MTR Station, run over by train and dies

12th July 2019 – (Hong Kong) At around 2pm today, a 65 year old man, Tang, jumped off the platform at Kowloon Tong MTR Station (Hung Hom direction) just before a train was arriving. The train driver applied emergency brake but it was too late. The victim was run over by the train and MTR Staff immediately prevented other trains from entering the station.

Police and firemen arrived at the scene and it took them over 30 minutes to rescue him. The man sustained severe head injuries and paramedics team pronounced him dead upon arrival at hospital. Police found a suicide note at the scene and preliminary investigation revealed that he was suffering from a chronic disease.

Meanwhile, MTR announced that the train service was affected by the incident. Waiting time was around 10 minutes until service was fully restored at 2.54pm.
