64-year-old doctor in Yuen Long arrested for fraudulently issuing more than 6,000 medical exemption certificates for COVID-19 vaccination

5th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) The police earlier received a complaint alleging that a private medical clinic in Yuen Long issued patients with fraudulent “medical exemption certificates for COVID-19 vaccination” and overcharged them with high consultation fees. It is suspected that the doctor of the clinic did not follow the relevant guidelines of the Department of Health to issue medical exemption certificate for COVID-19 vaccination  to the patients. The validity period of each medical exemption certificate for COVID-19 vaccination  is 90 days and the consultation fee is HK$500.

The doctor was suspected of committing the crime of “forgery of documents”, and the Yuen Long Police District Crime Squad followed up the case. Today (5th) in the afternoon, the officers carried a warrant to search a clinic in the Yuen Long section of Castle Peak Road in Yuen Long, and seized a large amount of evidence including documents and computer records.

After investigation, a female doctor surnamed Choi(64 years old) of the clinic was arrested. It is the responsibility of every citizen to call on the police to fight the epidemic together. Anyone who evades vaccination by illegal means will seriously affect public safety and hygiene. The police said that the clinic has been open for more than a year and has been visited by more than 6,000 citizens since August. According to the survey results, a large number of citizens queue up every day for medical exemption certificates for COVID-19 vaccination at the clinic, and the situation is quite serious.
