28th January 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Saturday (28th) that from 20th to 26th January, medical institutions in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps recorded a total of 6,364 hospitalised deaths related to COVID-19. The new figures have been greatly reduced by nearly half. Among the new deaths, 289 died of respiratory failure caused by COVID-19 infection, and the remaining 6,075 died of underlying diseases combined with the COVID-19 infection. The last time the China CDC released figures was on Sunday (22nd). From January 13th to 19th, a total of 12,658 deaths in hospital were recorded, of which 681 were deaths from respiratory failure caused by the COVID-19 infection, and the other 11,977 were deaths due to underlying diseases combined with novel coronavirus infection.
