25th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) Lee Cheuk-Yan, the incarcerated chairman of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, has a relative named Marilyn Tang aged 63, who was previously arrested by the National Security Department on 11th March. Tang is accused of taking away evidence related to a case involving “collusion with foreign or external forces to endanger national security,” in an attempt to obstruct the investigation.
Today (25th), the National Security Department announced that Tang has been formally charged with the crime of “obstructing justice.” The case will be brought before the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday (28th) morning.
Marilyn Tang, the former director of the CTU Training Centre, a subsidiary of the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), announced in September 2021 that the CTU would initiate the dissolution process, and the CTU Training Centre would cease admissions. At the time, Tang described the incident as a loss for the people of Hong Kong.
