62-year-old doctor in Wuhan dies from coronavirus, death toll surges to 41 since outbreak, 3 new cases reported in Malaysia


25th January 2020 – (Wuhan) A 62-year-old doctor at Hubei Xinhua hospital in China’s Hubei province, the centre of the coronavirus outbreak, has died from the virus. Dr. Liang Wudong, a surgeon who was treating patients in Wuhan, just become the first doctor to die from the new Coronavirus.

Authorities in China announced yesterday that the number of cases had surged to 1289 – the majority of which were in Hubei. The death toll has since surged to 15 in Wuhan, bringing the total number of fatalities to 41 since the outbreak began.  Hainan and Xinjiang province launched the preparedness and Response Plan for Novel Infectious Disease of Public Health Significance at 11.30am today. Three cases were detected in Xinjiang. First coronavirus infection was also detected in Jilin province at 11.09am. A new patient and a two-year-old girl were also found with the virus in Guangxi province.

Meanwhile, Malaysia has just reported its third case of coronavirus. All three of them are from China and they are currently being treated in the Southern state of Johor. They were in close contact with the 66-year-old patient in Singapore. Australia also reported its first case on Saturday.
