612 Humanitarian Relief Fund set up by civilians to cover legal expenses of arrested protesters who are charged

1st August 2019 – (Hong Kong) 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund was set up on 6th July to replace the temporary ‘Anti-extradition injured and arrested protesters Relief Fund’ set up on 16th June.

The purpose of the fund is to provide FREE legal service for protesters who were arrested and charged during any anti-extradition protests and to cover their medical expenses incurred as a result of injuries sustained during protest. In principle, the Fund will bear the costs of their legal expenses. However, if the protesters qualify for the government legal aid services, the Fund will encourage them to do so. The Fund will use the benchmark of legal aid costs to determine on the legal expenses needed.

The Fund will take into account the interest of the implicated protester when evaluating. Meanwhile, the Fund has recently provided legal support for the 45 protesters who were arrested during the Sheung Wan clash on 28th July.
