6.1 magnitude earthquake hits eastern Paktika province, Afghanistan, at least 940 killed and 610 injured (Updated: 5pm)


22nd June 2022 – (Kabul)  At least  940 people were killed and over 610 injured after an earthquake struck the eastern Afghan region early on Wednesday, the state-run Bakhtar News Agency reported.

According to NDTV, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 hit parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The USGS said the quake struck about 44 km (27 miles) from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51 km.
