53-year-old Hong Kong woman injured in paragliding accident in Taiwan

26th May 2023 – (Taipei) According to reports from Taiwanese media, a woman named Cheung from Hong Kong lost control of her paraglider and fell, injuring her head and foot. She was conscious and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred near the Chiao Hsi outside of Ao Sha Beach in Yilan, Taiwan at around 10.42 m local time. The Yilan Fire Department received a report of a person falling while operating a paraglider. Upon arrival, they confirmed that the injured parties were a 53-year-old woman named Cheung from Hong Kong and a 55-year-old male coach named Zou from Taiwan. Cheung sustained a fractured left foot and a head laceration, while the coach suffered a leg laceration. Both were conscious and taken to the Yangming Branch of National Defence Medical Center for further treatment.

It is reported that Cheung and her friends were visiting Taiwan and had gone paragliding with a group of five this morning. Cheung and the coach were scheduled to land at Ao Sha Beach, but their paraglider experienced an unexpected situation in the air, causing them to lose control and fall near a residential area. Coach Zou stated that their paraglider was affected by side winds, leading to the accident.
