50-year-old deceased suspect who attempted to murder a police officer used to work in a beverage company in Tuen Mun, suicide notes found (Updated: 2.14pm)


2nd July 2021 – (Hong Kong) A 50-year-old man stabbed a male police officer in front of Sogo Department Store in Causeway Bay before killing himself.

It is understood that the 50-year-old man, Leung reported to live in a tenement unit on Shung Ling Street, San Po Kong. He worked in the purchasing department of a beverage company in Tuen Mun District. A colleague claimed that Leung was single and reclusive and he had never heard of his political and police remarks. Colleagues were shocked by the incident. Detectives went to the office where the suspect went to work this morning (2nd) to search for evidence.

Leung was not an active social media user, but he paid attention to news about social movements in recent years. He had left several suicide notes before attempting to assassinate the police last night, saying that after killing the police, he would commit suicide and explain the funeral to his elderly parents. According to the source, Leung had no criminal record and the police seized some propaganda leaflets about social movement in his apartment. The neighbour said that he did not know the deceased.

Police officers were present at the scene of the crime outside Sogo Department Store today. During this period, a citizen in black brought flowers to the scene to mourn for the suspect, but was stopped by the police for investigation. In addition, some citizens put flowers on the ground and they were seized by the police.
