5 sentenced to 40-55 months in prison and 2 sentenced to training centre for participating in riot outside Govt HQ in 2019


21st November 2022 – (Hong Kong) On 29th September 2019, a large number of protesters gathered outside the Government Headquarters in Admiralty. Some rioters blocked the road, set fire and threw petrol bombs at the building. The police had to dispatch water cannon vehicles to disperse the crowd. Eight men and women who were arrested that day were both charged with rioting afterwards. Five pleaded guilty before trial, one pleaded guilty during the trial, and the remaining two men were convicted after trial. Seven of them were sentenced in the district court today (21st), two juvenile defendants were sentenced to training centre and the remaining five were sentenced to 40 to 55 months in prison. One of them, a 22-year-old defendant, Lau has to be quarantined today, so the sentencing has been adjourned to Friday (25th).
