20th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) In early morning today on Aberdeen Praya Road, five vehicles were involved in a collision, leading to significant traffic congestion on the main thoroughfare towards Wong Chuk Hang. As a result, some residents had to adapt their commuting routes by taking ferries to Lei Tung Station in order to leave the southern district.
One commuter, Mr. Wong, who was initially waiting for a bus in Tin Wan to go to work, encountered severe traffic congestion at the scene. Consequently, he decided to walk to MTR Wong Chuk Hang Station. Along the way, he noticed many other workers who usually rely on buses or minibuses also resorting to getting off and walking to the MTR station. Additionally, some individuals opted to take the ferry at Aberdeen and travel to Ap Lei Chau before continuing their journey on foot to Lei Tung Station.
The incident occurred at 742am today (20th), involving three private cars, one taxi, and a goods vehicle. Fortunately, no one was trapped or injured in the accident. In response to the traffic incident, the Transport Department announced the closure of some lanes on Aberdeen Praya Road towards Pok Fu Lam near Shek Pai Wan Road Playground. The resulting traffic congestion extended to Wong Chuk Hang Road, close to the toll plaza of Aberdeen Tunnel.
