18th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) A 46-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly disseminating messages with incitement intentions through social media platforms on multiple occasions. The National Security Department conducted a law enforcement operation this morning (18th) in the Hung Hom district, executing a court order to search the residence of the arrested individual. During the search, electronic communication devices that were previously used to disseminate inciting messages were seized. The arrested person is currently being detained for further investigation.
The individual in question is suspected of violating Sections 9 and 10 of Cap 200 of the Hong Kong Criminal Offences Ordinance, which pertains to the offense of “engaging in acts with seditious intent.” The content posted by the individual includes incitement of hatred towards the central and Hong Kong SAR government, calls for sanctions against government officials, and incitement of violence.
