8th December 2022 – (Hong Kong) Last Monday night, the police smashed a cross-border prostitution syndicate and arrested 17 prostitutes from Russia, Japan, and the Mainland. They then arrested a 33-year-old Mainland woman in Wan Chai District, believed to be the ringleader. The police said today (8th) that after in-depth investigations, a 46-year-old local male police officer was arrested in Ngau Tau Kok yesterday (December 7th) on aiding and abetting illegal immigrants, arranging passage of unauthorised entrants to Hong Kong. It is reported that the suspect is a police officer of the Tsim Sha Tsui Divisional Task Force. The Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West is currently following up the investigation. The arrested man will be suspended later. It is understood that during the police operation last Monday night, the female mastermind of the prostitution syndicate was suspected to have been notified, causing her to leave the hotel room in Tsim Sha Tsui before the arrest operation. After several days of investigation, the police finally arrested her last Saturday, and seized more than 150,000 Hong Kong dollars in cash, several mobile phones, two Hong Kong ID cards with different names that had been reported lost, and A Taiwan identity card.
She was detained for investigation. However, the police had suspicions about the female mastermind’s knowledge of the police’s actions, so they launched an in-depth investigation and arrested the male policeman involved in the case yesterday.
