42-year-old photographer arrested flying drone in no-fly zone in TST, 27 others fined for gathering

1st June 2022 - (Hong Kong) In response to President Xi Jinping's visit to Hong Kong to celebrate the return of the motherland, the Hong Kong government has arranged a series of security operations, including setting up  a no-fly zone for drones since yesterday afternoon and today from 6am to 4pm.

 The police received a report at 9am this morning that some people illegally gathered at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui and operated a small drone in a "restricted flight area", endangering public safety and aviation safety. After the police arrived at the scene, a 42-year-old man was arrested for the crime of "flying a small drone within the restricted flight area without obtaining the required permission", and the small drone involved in the case was seized for further investigation.

A total of 27 people present were also suspected of violating the gathering ban and they were fined. It is understood that the scene was a gathering  of car owners of a club  and the 42-year-old man who was arrested was a photographer.

The seized drone is DJI MAVIC 2.
