41-year-old man scammed over HK$190,000 for sale of alcohol product to a fraudster


16th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) At around 12am today, the police received a report from a man surnamed Yau (41) at 6 Dragon Terrace, Tin Hau who sold alcohol products on an online trading platform earlier. A buyer in his 20s falsely claimed to have transferred HK$75,000 a few times to purchase a bottle of alcohol from him. He then asked the seller to return the money.

The seller transferred a total of about HK$115,000 to the buyer’s bank account twice. The victim later found out that the transfer claimed by the fraudster was unsuccessful, and he suspected that he had been deceived and reported the case to the police. Together with the alcoholic drink, the victim lost a total of HK$190,000. After investigation, the police classified the case as obtaining property by deception and handed it over to the Eastern District Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. No arrests have been made so far.
