23rd June 2021 – (Hong Kong) The Food and Health Bureau announced that as of the morning and evening of 20th June, the Department of Health has received 142 reports of abnormal incidents involving persons who have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Hospital Authority has not received any reports that they have been vaccinated within 14 days before death but the Department of Health received a report of death of a man who was vaccinated within 14 days before his death. This case involved a 40-year-old man with asthma who had been vaccinated with Sinovac vaccine. There is no clinical evidence that the incident was caused by the vaccine, and the case has submitted to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation for causality assessment.

Regarding the death cases involving vaccinated persons, including 22 cases involving vaccination within 14 days before death (accounting for 0.0007% of the total dose of vaccination), no death cases showed that they were related to vaccination. As of 20th June , the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation has concluded that six deaths have no causal relationship with vaccination. It initially believes that 15 cases are not related to vaccination, and one is still pending. The expert committee believes that no unusual phenomenon has been found so far, and will continue to closely monitor the situation and collect data for evaluation.
