33 arrested in 2 illegal gambling dens in Mong Kok, 6 in snooker centre and amusement game centre fined for not wearing masks properly


25th November 2022 – (Hong Kong) Police officers from Mong Kok District Operations Department, Anti-Triad Operations Team, District Licensing Team, Special Duty Team etc, jointly with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department yesterday (24th), launched an anti-crime operation. Officers carried out surprise inspections of restaurants and scheduled premises in the area to remind licensees and citizens to strictly abide by the epidemic prevention regulations, and successively smashed two illegal gambling dens. The gambling dens involved in the case were located on Canton Road and Arran Street in Mong Kok.

The police arrested a total of 13 men and 20 women (aged 22 to 75) in the two units for “management of illegal gambling establishments”, “assistance in the management of gambling establishments”, “gambling in gambling establishments”, violation of the conditions of stay and violation of epidemic prevention regulations. The arrested men and women have been detained for questioning. In addition, during the inspection of the scheduled premises in the area, law enforcement officers found a total of 6 men not wearing masks properly in an amusement game centre and a snooker centre, suspected of violating the “Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing Masks) Regulations” , they have been issued fixed penalty fines, and the persons in charge of the two venues have also been issued summonses for prosecution. The venues must also be closed for 3 days.
