32 arrested during police operation at unlicensed bar in Cheung Sha Wan and raid at illegal baccarat casino in Yuen Long

24th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Sham Shui Po Police District Anti-Triad Action Team launched an anti-criminal operation codenamed “THUNDERBOLT 2022” at about 1am today. Officers raided a unit in an industrial building at No. 489-491 Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan, and smashed an unlicensed bar. During the operation, a 19-year-old person in charge surnamed Ma was arrested on suspicion of “unlicensed sale of alcoholic beverages”, “unlicensed possession of alcoholic beverages for sale” and violation of the “Prevention and Control of Diseases (Requirements and Instructions) (Business and Premises)” )regulation”. In addition, 1 man and 6 women (aged 14 to 23) in the unit were arrested on suspicion of “drinking in a place without a liquor licence” and they were also suspected of violating the “Prevention and Control of Diseases (Requirements and Instructions) (Business and Places) Regulations, police officers then issued fixed penalty notices to them. During the operation, 8 bottles of spirits, 128 cans of beer and a batch of bar equipment were seized.

In addition, the Yuen Long Police District Special Duty Team raided a residential unit in Pau Cheung Square, smashed a baccarat gambling den, and arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of “operating a gambling establishment” and violating the “Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Gatherings) Regulations. A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of “assisting in the operation of gambling establishments” and violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Gathering) Regulations. In addition, 17 men and five women (aged 26 to 74) were arrested on suspicion of “gambling in a gambling establishment”. All the arrested persons were also suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Gathering) Regulation, and the police officers issued fixed penalty notices to them. During the operation, a total of 1 baccarat table, 8 decks of gambling cards, 11 chairs, about HK$38,000 in cash and a pile of chips were seized.
