300 entertainment venues inspected by police in last 4 days, 4 illegal gamblings dens and 1 prostitution establishment raided, 80 arrested

7th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) Police office conducted anti-crime operation for four consecutive days since last Wednesday (3rd) in the North Region. During the four-day operation, the police smashed 4 suspected illegal gambling dens and 1 suspected prostitution establishment, arrested 80 people were arrested and a total of 84 fixed penalty notices were issued. They were aged between 19 and 75, the arrested persons include 54 local men, 17 local women, 1 Mainland man, 3 Mainland women, 2 Pakistani men, 1 Filipino man, an Indian man and Palestinian man. During the operation, the police seized 14 fishing arcade machines, 2 baccarat tables, card readers, a batch of game cards, about HK$160,000 in gamblings chips, about 32 grams of suspected “meth”, about 88 grams of suspected cocaine and a small amount of Marijuana, the total value of drugs is about HK$100,000. Two of them are being detained for investigation, and the remaining arrested persons have been released on bail pending investigation and must report to the police in early September.

In addition, the police also inspected more than 297 entertainment venues, including mahjong parlours, bars, night clubs, game centres and saunas, etc. and found suspected violations of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulations , the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Gathering) Regulation, the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing of Mask) Regulation and the Prevention and Control of Disease (Vaccine Pass) Regulation, the police then issued fixed penalty notices to 84 people.
