30-year-old computer technician sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for committing online act with seditious intent


27th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) Since last year, 30-year-old computer technician, Chan Wai-lun left pro-democracy and anti-government messages and posts including “Hong Kong Independence” on Lihkg.com discussion forum between 24th December 2021 and 23rd June 2022. He was arrested by the National Security Division of the police in the middle of this year and charged with committing an act with seditious intent. He pleaded guilty at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts today (27th) and was sentenced to 16 weeks of immediate imprisonment by the designated judge and chief magistrate of the National Security Law Peter Law.

He published and or continued to display statements at LIHKG with intent to arouse hatred or contempt for the Central Government and/or the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or to provoke betrayal of them ; provoking Hong Kong residents to attempt to induce changes in other legally enacted matters in Hong Kong without legal means, incite others to use violence and incite others to disobey the law or obey lawful orders.
