3 senior staff of HKUST who attended Witman Hung’s birthday party in Wan Chai to be sent to Penny’s Bay for quarantine

7th January 2022 – (Hong Kong) Witman Hung, Deputy to National People’s Congress and Principal Liaison Officer for Hong Kong · Shenzhen Qianhai Authority held a birthday party for more than 160 people including top government officials such as police chief Raymond Siu and Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui at Reserva Ibérica Tapas Bar & Restaurant in Causeway Centre in Wan Chai on Monday (3rd).  Many of them have been sent to Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) sent a letter to the students today (7th) saying that 3 HKUST staff including Professor Wang Yang, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement,  Vice-President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) Charles Ng Wang-wai and director of the Fok Ying-tung Research Institute (Green Building and Environmental R&D Department), Ng attended a birthday party with two preliminary confirmed cases on Monday (3rd).

The University of Science and Technology stated that the three staff had taken the initiative to be tested at the community testing centre after learning of the incident and contacted by the Centre for Health Protection. The Centre for Health Protection also announced today that they will be sent to Penny’s Bay Quarantine Centre with other attendees tonight. HKUST stated that it has taken precautionary measures. The offices and places visited by them in the past 3 days will be disinfected.
